Consultants Needed Nationwide! What's So Special About Usborne Books? |
WHAT ARE INTERNET-LINKED BOOKS? Among Usborne’s award-winning line of books are internet-linked books – these books serve as a gateway to knowledge for fact-hungry children. A generic links website maintained by Usborne provides recommended websites for additional learning and adventures on many subjects. HOW DO INTERNET-LINKED BOOKS WORK? At the links website, simply enter the name of the book and the page number, and you’ll be given a list of safe, content-appropriate websites to visit to research a subject in a fun and informative way. WHAT KIND OF LINKS ARE PROVIDED? Children can
design their own fish, go on a virtual treasure hunt in Africa, observe
open-heart surgery, hear radio broadcasts from WWII, go on a virtual
deep-sea dive and see what creatures live at each level of the ocean,
tour a castle and dress a knight, listen to words and phrases in other
languages, watch animated explanations of global warming or the water
cycle – and endless other learning adventures! Downloadable
quizzes, word searches and activity sheets make learning a challenge -
amazing photographs, illustrations and diagrams provide the child with
additional information on any subject…the facts found help a child to
fully understand a new concept and will be very helpful with school
papers, science fair projects, etc.
From Usborne's Beginner's Series to the 432-page Science
Encyclopedia, there are internet-linked Usborne Books that are appealing
and appropriate for all age ranges - early childhood through adult! WHICH
BOOKS ARE INTERNET-LINKED? How can you tell if a book is internet-linked? Click here to view the internet-linked books - each book will show either IR or IL – IL indicates that links are provided on most two-page spreads; IR indicates that a list of 3-4 websites is provided in the back of that book that pertain to the topic as a whole. HOW
SAFE ARE THE LINKS? The links provided in the books are written so that the links website can be changed rather than the book itself (no specific websites are listed in the books) in case a link becomes inactive or inappropriate. All the websites are regularly reviewed and updated. Of course, as with all internet use by children, parental supervision is recommended. But don't worry - you'll have fun and learn something too! CAN
MY CHILD USE THESE BOOKS FOR HOMEWORK? Absolutely! Internet-linked books are an invaluable aid for homework - and for teachers. They save time by cutting out search engines and they take readers safely and quickly to all the best places on the Internet. Using the internet links is like doing a google search and getting the top five search results - without having to page through 50 pages of results! Be sure to review the Internet-Linked Encyclopedia Set, which includes the Science Encyclopedia (448 pages), the Encyclopedia of World History (416 pages) and the Encyclopedia of World Geography (400 pages). Each of these in hardback binding is $39.99, but the entire set can be purchased for $99.99 in hardback or $139.95 in library binding. Each book is filled with internet-links - no more last-minute trips to the library for research papers or book reports - you'll have a library at your fingertips!
